in fact prices are getting so high they prompted an emergency move from governor jerry brown. bob redell joins us live in cupertino. he has more on this ever-growing story in the wrong direction. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. yes, this is an emergency move that's also unprecedented. governor jerry brown has directed the california air reboersz boar resources board to allow the immediate production of the winter blend of gasoline. this should immediately increase the supply of gasoline and in theory lower the prices that you are paying at the pump. we're at the 76 station here in cupertino. this is an extreme. they're charging $5.39 for a regular gallon of gas. you can go elsewhere and find it cheaper, but it's still very expensive. here are the latest numbers from aaa overnight. an average gallon of gas in the bay area is around $4.70. if you were to look at those prices and compare them to a week ago, that's a jump of 46 to 47 cents in just seven days. now, usually california doesn't switch to this winter blend until october 31st. the downside of s
